If Master Spell gives you a dialog box that states that your test could not be opened because the application "Simple Text" could not be found then this is the most likely solution:
The Control Panel "Mac OS Easy Open" is intercepting the loading of the TEXT file. The way the preferences for this Control Panel are currently set up, TEXT documents are asked to be opened with Quicktime translation with Master Spell. Master Spell doesn't support, nor does it need Quicktime translation.
Here's how to solve the problem without affecting other settings on your Mac.
1. Open the Control Panel "Mac OS Easy Open" and select the "Always show dialog box" option.
2. Launch Master Spell and load a test.
3. You will be prompted with at least two ways to open the document in Master Spell. Select "Master Spell 3.x" (whichever version you have). Do not select "Master Spell 3.x with Quicktime translation".
4. The test should have loaded in Master Spell now. You can deselect the "Always show dialog box" option in the "Mac OS Easy Open" Control Panel. From now on tests should load normally without any extra dialog boxes.
